November 2006

This was formerly the Nestle Smarties Book Prize and was originally set up in 1985 as the Smarties book Prize.   It is awarded for a fiction book written for children by a UK author.  A panel of adult judges picks a short list in 3 age categories, under 5 years, 6 – 8 and from 9 – 11.  Schools are then invited to enter the competition so that children become the final judges.  This is a list of the books that have won the Prize and are currently in print.  When no books are mentioned for a particular year, then the winning books are no longer available.
